Funding for Registered Charities in the Blue Mountains

In addition to supporting the Blue Mountains District Anzac Memorial Hospital, the Leura Gardens Festival is proud to support a number of other Blue Mountains health related organisations.  In 2017 and 2018, four grants each of $6000 were provided to the following:

  • Greystanes Disability Services
  • Cancer Wellness Support
  • Blue Mountains Health Trust
  • Can Assist Blue Mountains Branch

Most recently the Leura Gardens Festival provided a donation of $3,550 to Baptist Care Morven Gardens, Leura to assist with the development of a sensory/dementia friendly garden. Sensory gardens use plants and other materials to create areas with a variety of aromas, textures, colours, noises and shapes and are an exciting place for people to connect with nature, as they are encouraged to touch, taste, admire and listen. The garden will provide a stimulating and interesting environment for residents and the Committee is delighted that funds raised during the recent Festival are being used to help local residents.

In 2018 the Leura Gardens Festival donated $3,000 to assist in the restoration and conservation of the Remembrance Garden at the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital that honours over 140 veterans.  The garden was constructed in 1927 and this is only the second makeover in over 90 years.

The hospital’s General Manager, Andrea Williams, said “as the only ANZAC Memorial Hospital within New South Wales, it is important that we honour our history and the restoration succeeds in continuing to provide a wonderful legacy and tribute to those who have served.” In 2018 a further $2000 was donated towards the restoration of the Rotary Garden at the hospital.
