Thank you Blue Mountains Community
The 52nd Leura Gardens Festival well exceeded our expectations, with visitors coming from all over Australia, and even New Zealand, to see the best the Upper Blue Mountains has to offer, as well as helping to support our hospital.
And even the biting wind couldn’t keep visitors away, with the gardens themselves coming to the party and putting on a stunning show in spite of the not-very-spring-like weather.
With three extra gardens this year, our resources were stretched to the limit, but thanks to our wonderful volunteers everything went off comparatively smoothly.
As always, there is a long list of people and organisations to thank for helping to make the festival both possible and successful.
Thank you to my dedicated planning committee; to the around 400 volunteers who made the festival such a wonderful event for visitors; to the garden owners for sharing their special worlds with us; to our major sponsors – Bendigo Bank, Katoomba RSL, McGrath, Scenic World and Waldorf Leura Gardens Resort; to our “Friends of the Festival” - Audrey Sanderson, Leila Wright, Blue Mountains Funerals, BMCC Clrs Chris van der Kley, Michael Begg, Don McGregor, Anton Von Schulenberg and Sarah Shrubb, Greenwood Early Education Centre, Katoomba, Greystanes Disability Services and Leura Memorial Gardens; to the people who provided bouquets for our hospital flowers initiative; to the Society of Mountain Artists for putting on such a good show; and to all the musicians who further brightened up our days.
And we should also thank State Rail who had the sense to listen to our pleas and put on eight-carriage trains, instead of the four-carriages we had last year.
And, of course, thank you to the residents of Leura, who not only supported the festival but put up with the inconvenience of so much traffic.
We look forward to doing it all again at next year’s festival.
